SCIENCE LEARNING BASED ON LOCAL WISDOM TO IMPROVE THE SCIENCE LITERACY OF PGSD STUDENTS IN SUPPORTING CONTINUOUS EDUCATION

Abstract

Improving science literacy is one of the main challenges in 21st century education. The Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD) has the responsibility of preparing prospective teachers who are able to develop science learning that is contextual, innovative, and relevant to students' lives. One approach that can be applied is science learning based on local wisdom. This study aims to describe the implementation of science learning based on local wisdom and analyze its contribution to improving the science literacy of PGSD students. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with 30 PGSD students. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and analysis of student project assignments. The results of the study show that the integration of local wisdom in science learning is able to improve students' ability to explain scientific phenomena, interpret data, solve problems, and connect science concepts with the reality of people's lives. Students also show increased awareness of the importance of cultural and environmental preservation as part of sustainable development. Science learning based on local wisdom provides a more meaningful learning experience because students can learn science concepts through real phenomena found in the surrounding environment. Therefore, this approach can be a strategic alternative in the development of science learning in the PGSD Study Program.
